WHAT IS A WIEGHT DISTRIBUTION HITCH? AND WHY DO I NEED ONE?

A Weight Distribution (WD) System takes the natural center of the weight off of your trailer hitch and distributes it between the tow vehicle and the trailer wheels.Rather than merely supporting the trailer tongue weight (TW), Weight Distributing Hitches apply leverage between the towing vehicle and trailer causing the TW to be carried by all axles of both the tow vehicle and the trailer.

Match the Tow Vehicle & the Trailer

This part is very important in the process. Do not take the advice here lightly because failure to correctly match the tow vehicle and the trailer could lead to serious accidents or problems.

Neither the vehicle nor the trailer alone can determine the right hitch for the situation. They work together, and in no case should the trailer's Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) and Tongue Weight (TW) exceed the vehicle's maximum towing capacity.

See the image below for the correct vehicle to trailer ratios.

FAQ' ON FIFTHWHEELS

Tropical Storms & Hurricanes. What do we need to do with the RV? here are some helpful tips:

LEAVE TOWN! That is whats nice about owning an RV!  If you can't , here are some tips: Don't stay in the RV, evacuate to a safe shelter. Travel trailer & 5th wheel customers are asking if they need to tie them down. You can, but with a direct hit of from a tornado from a hurricane or ts.. tie downs won't help anyway. With all RV's, we suggest you make sure your jacks are down and ALL your tanks are full.. water, sewer and grey, and ALL vents be tightly closed. If they look dried and brittle, duck tape the surface of the vent. With awnings, make sure your travel locks are secure and we suggest adding straps close to the top and bottom of your hardware. Heavy duty zip ties work well. With Motorhomes, you want to park with the windshield either facing your home or with the wind to keep flying objects from a direct impact. This also applies to Towables. Again, point your trailer or the 5th wheel with the wind to keep your aerodynamics (BACKS TO THE WIND).  Finally, make sure all slide-out rooms are in, tv antennas down,  shore powercord is unplugged and stowed away, water and sewer hoses put away and turn off your LP tanks. We are here to help, so if you have any more questions please contact us at 1-800-477-6630 or email us at info@carpenterscampers.com
